Postdoctoral Fellowship in Enzyme Assay Development

The third Global Women's Breakfast took place at Rhodes Memorial in February, attended by chemists from UCT, Stellenbosch, UWC and CPUT.
Postdoctoral fellowships and MSc/PhD places are available in Dr Clive Oliver's research group for 2020.

Our Honours Poster Day took place on 22 November. This is one of the highlights of our annual postgraduate calendar, when our Honours students present their research for the year to the department and panel of examiners.

An enthusiastic team of Chemistry postgraduates won a fiercely contested inter-departmental soccer tournament held on 18 November at the UCT Sports Centre.

After a two-year hiatus, the Intervarsity SACI-RSC Quiz has returned. It was held at Stellenbosch this year and Team UCT retained its title. UCT won at the first incarnation of the event in 2016, which was held at the UCT Club.

UCT annual Science Postgraduate Showcase took place on 25 July this year in the S Baartman Hall.

Dr Chris Barnett recently attended the Galaxy Community Conference 2019 in Freiburg, Germany.

The Department of Chemistry transformation committee recently hosted Africa lunch. This important celebration of UCT’s Africa Month in May is in keeping with UCT’s core objectives to foster a more inclusive society. The Chemistry department has representation from 19 African countries (31 countries in total) amongst its postgraduate student and staff bodies!

Ten of our postgraduate students participated in the SACI/RSC Young Chemists’ Symposium, held in May at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
April Graduation saw our Honours 2018 class being capped, as well as some Master's and PhD graduates.
